Chatelherault to Low Parks Heritage Trail

Animating a trail with wayfinding markers, seating installations and a companion app.

We designed an interactive Heritage Trail from Chatelherault to Low Parks for the South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Trust. This trail follows part of the Sustrans Route 74. The trail included milestone markers at each end, smaller wayfinding markers at key points of interest, a bespoke interactive mobile app, a set of printed and digital maps and a gameified quiz for app users to encourage them to explore the trail.

We designed the Confluence Bench for the point where the River Avon meets the River Clyde, showing the two waters coming together.

Content for the trail was developed through engagement with the local community and organisations. The route was explored and tested through a series of artist-led walks. The pieces were designed to interpret stories, feelings and historical facts that local walking groups and school children shared through a series of artist-led workshops and events before the design stage.
