CHARTS: Developing Culture Heritage and Arts

Initiation of the Culture, Heritage and Arts network (CHARTS) across Argyll and the Isles

Icecream Architecture led the Creative Scotland Place Partnership Argyll: the Culture Heritage and Arts Network (CHARTS). The project was multifaceted with our team leading both the strategic overview of the organisation and on-the-ground development of a network of interested parties and individuals. CHARTS was embedded within Argyll & Bute Council and many other cultural organisations across the area. Over 2 years we developed a strategic plan for CHARTS, grew the network to over 500 members, initiated pilot projects - such as Art in Heritage sites and a youth arts partnership - and established a strong membership structure that works for both individuals and the board of directors. We also deployed an interactive, user-driven digital platform using our in house data platform to gather information, facilitate communication and map members and organisations across the region. CHARTS is now a registered charity acting on behalf of its members to support the creative industries and economic development in the region.
Initiating the network involved the creation of a steering group, development of 10 urban rural and island based hubs, the delivery of a consistent communication and marketing plan over 2 years and regular training sessions to upskill local makers, crafters, historians and organisations which culminated in the management of a live-streaming event that showcased the culture, heritage and arts of the region to the world.

Project work included strategic organisational planning, network building, hub development, events, communications and marketing management, securing external funding, monitoring and legacy planning. Quarterly and weekly reporting was completed in line with funder requirements.
