Chatelherault to Low Parks Heritage Trail

iOS & Android App

Chatelherault to Low Parks is a free mobile app accompanying a walking/cycling trail through Hamilton, Scotland. Using GPS, the app guides you along the route and highlights points of historical and natural interest.


Use of this app constitutes your acceptance of these Terms and Conditions, taking effect on your first use. Icecream architecture (ICA) and South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Trust (SLLC) reserve the right to change these terms and conditions at any time by posting changes online. You are responsible for regularly viewing information posted online to obtain timely notice of such changes. Your continued use of this app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of this agreement as modified by the posted changes.

Terms of Use

A. User of the App

Who can use the app?

Anyone over the age of 16 can use Chatelherault to Low Parks freely. Anyone under the age of 16 requires consent of a parent/guardian.  


Mobile devices 

This app can be used on both iOS and Android mobile devices. Users will need to provide their own mobile devices for the use of this app. Users are fully responsible to any loss, damage or theft to their own mobile device as a result of using this app. Users are advised to fully charge their own mobile device before using the use the app to explore the trail. 



The app requires an internet connection to operate (such as Wi-Fi or mobile data). It is the responsibility of the user to find this connection. This app is made available to you free of charge for use on your mobile device. You may be charged rates or fees by wireless or telephone carriers or other parties unconnected to ICA / SLLC for the download and use of the App. 



ICA / SLLC commit to updating and monitoring the app and its functionality. Users however are fully responsible for updates and storage management on their own mobile devices.  


External links and security 

This App contains hyperlinks to external web-pages which provide more information about each heritage point. Where these hyperlinks to third party websites are provided, ICA / SLLC makes no claims regarding the suitability or otherwise of such websites, or guarantee that they are free of viruses, Trojans or other malicious software or malware. Should you have any queries, concerns or complaints regarding a third party website, please direct your query, concern or complaint to that third party. 

B. Responsible & Legal Use

Responsible use 

You are encouraged to use the app on your mobile device whilst stationary and to take note of your movement and surroundings whilst browsing the app on your mobile device. Neither ICA or SLLC are responsible for your physical safety whilst using this app.  


This is an app designed for use alongside walking and cycling. Users must however take responsibility for their own physical health. Please consult your health care provider if you have, or suspect you have, a health problem before undertaking the trail. 



External factors 

ICA / SLLC are not responsible for external factors which might be encountered on the trail route, such as people or physical obstacles. Although the physical heritage markers on the walking trail will be regularly monitored, this app is designed to function independently in the event of any damage or vandalism to the physical markers. Please note the route uses public rights of way and core path networks. These are not maintained by ICA / SLLC. 


Unlawful use 

You may not use this app for any unlawful purposes or in furtherance of illegal activities. By using the app, you agree to comply with all applicable UK laws governing your online conduct and content. 


Violent or abusive responses 

The app provides a hyperlink to an external survey - managed by SLLC - that users may complete. The use of this survey to make any specific threats of violence or desire for the serious physical harm, death, or disease of an individual or group of people will not be tolerated. 


Spam and Security 

We strive to protect all users of the app from technical abuse and spam. You may not attempt to access, tamper with or use non-public areas of this app, it’s computer systems, or database. In addition, you may not probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system or network used by the app, or breach/circumvent any security or authentication measures incorporated by the app.

C. Intellectual Property

We will respond to clear and complete notices of alleged copyright infringement. All rights to the app content and design including the graphic layout, maps, symbols, logos and software code used within this app are reserved to ‘Chatelherault to Low Parks 2018’ (Icecream Architecture Ltd.) Reproduction of any part of the App without the express permission of ICA is illegal unless otherwise indicated. 


Copyright of content provided by 3rd parties 

The images and videos contained in this app are owned by or licensed for use by ICA and SLLC. Therefore, no images should be reproduced without appropriate permissions.  


Verified information 

All of the textual content contained within this app has been provided by SLLC and is accurate to the best of their knowledge.  


Content updates 

SLLC reserve the right to edit and add textual or image content to the app and retain sole management of this function.  

Privacy Policy

A1. Data Collection

No personal data is collected or rendered visible through use of the app. For example, no names or contact details can be retrieved as a result of using the app. 


Some anonymised, timestamped data is collected by the app when users press the ‘Finish Route’ button on the main Map screen or within each Waypoint screen. The data collected consists of: 


  • The time and date at which the ‘Finish Route’ button was pressed. 

  • The location - Chatelherault Country Park or Low Parks Museum - which the user selected as their starting point within the app. 


In addition, a record of the total number of times the ‘Finish Route’ button has been pressed is kept. 


This data is stored within a secure, password-protected database accessible only by ICA. 


This data may be viewed - not modified - via a secure, password-protected, content-management web app - Low Parks App Manager - accessible only by ICA and SLLC.

A2. How this data will be used

Icecream architecture (app owners) 

ICA will only access this data in the event that a problem is identified with the app or Low Parks App Manager and maintenance is requested by SLLC. 


South Lanarkshire Culture and Leisure Trust (app managers) 

SLLC will only access this data to identify quantitative data regarding app usage.

A3. How this data will be protected

Icecream architecture (app owners) 

This data is stored within a secure, password-protected database. This password will not be passed on to any 3rd parties and a record of it will not be stored on any publicly retrievable platform.  


South Lanarkshire Culture and Leisure Trust (app managers) 

SLLC operate Data Protection under their corporate policies and guidelines. Passwords are held securely and data will not be stored on any publicly retrievable platform.

Within the app, users are invited to complete a survey via a hyperlink. This survey is hosted within a SurveyMonkey account managed by SLLC, and is therefore entirely external to the app and any database accessible by ICA. Any data collected via the survey is not stored by the app or retrievable by ICA. 


SLLC are the sole party who can access the responses to this survey, via a secure login requiring a password.  


SLLC are fully responsible for managing and updating the questions which are asked within this questionnaire.  


On behalf of SLLC, museum service management and curatorial staff will have sole access to this data. 

B2. How the survey data will be used

South Lanarkshire Culture and Leisure Trust (app managers) 

SLLC will use the survey to analyse app usage and user profiling. This will be reported as part of performance reporting and to assist in future development of this or other similar projects. Data may also be used to provide supporting information to the funding body and South Lanarkshire Council.   

B3. How this data will be protected
