Preparing a new plan for Prestwick town centre which builds on existing action plans and previous engagement.
Client: South Ayrshire Council
Duration: 4 Months
icecream architecture were commissioned as part of a wider design team to deliver the Talk Prestwick Charrette on behalf of South Ayrshire Council in order to prepare a new plan which builds on the Town Centre Action Plans and previous engagements around Civic Pride.
icecream architecture developed a Talk Prestwick brand and social media presence early on in the process, which was successfully adopted by the local community. The project Facebook page proved to be a key tool for engaging with local people and kickstarting conversations amongst residents, providing a useful insight for the design team to identify the emerging themes, highlight potential projects, and the key locations requiring focus during the charrette.
A series of Charrette animation activities, events, and workshops were carried which aimed to promote the upcoming Charrette and identify a focus for the programmed workshops. These activities involved a series of on street events, utilising a large map of the town for recording thoughts, ideas and issues in the town. Alongside this more focussed sessions were carried out with local school groups, businesses and key stakeholders.
The Talk Prestwick Charrette identified a long list of new and exciting projects for town and brought together a number of existing groups and individuals in order to build local capacity to deliver these projects. Although the reporting and presentation of these findings is yet to be finalised, the momentum generated throughout the charrette process has enabled a number of these projects to be kickstarted well beyond any initial conversations.
